Dried elderberry seeds

Dried elderberry seeds

Black elderberry seeds are the main raw material for obtaining oil. The oil is widely used in cosmetics.
Black elderberry seed oil contains approx. 80% of essential unsaturated fatty acids (EFAs). Linoleic acid (38%) and alpha-linolenic acid (36%) are particularly important in cosmetics, as well as the unsaponifiable fraction, which occurs in the form of tocopherols, phytosterols and phospholipids. These acids promote the formation of prostaglandins, which prevent premature skin aging. A deficiency of linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids reduces the skin’s natural resistance to adverse factors and results in irritation, inflammation, seborrhea and acne or psoriasis. The skin becomes dry, has reduced elasticity, which accelerates the formation of wrinkles. Elderberry oil also contains palmitic and stearic acids, carotenoids, antioxidant vitamin E in the form of natural tocopherols, phytosterols and phospholipids.

The high content of linoleic acid increases the permeability of the stratum corneum, which makes the oil capable of deep tissue penetration and delivering the active substances needed by the skin. Active acids, linoleic and alpha-linolenic, due to their tissue activity, have the ability to build into the intercellular structures of the skin, which improves its immune barrier and the ability to maintain an appropriate level of moisture. The use of black elderberry seed oil regulates and normalises the lipid metabolism in the skin, liquefies sebum and cleanses pores and prevents the formation of acne lesions. The oil belongs to the group of light oils, it can be applied directly to the skin, is easily absorbed and does not leave a greasy film after application. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-comedogenic properties, which are used in the care of oily skin prone to acne. Pleasant to use, moisturises well, straightens fine wrinkles, soothes irritations, calms the skin. It can also be used as an additive to cosmetics in the amount of 5-15%. Black elderberry seeds contain approx. 25% crude fat. Black elderberry oil contains: linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, phytosterols, phospholipids, carotenoids. It contains anthocyanins, essential oils, tannins, flavonoids (including rutin and quercetin). It is also rich in organic acids and vitamins: A, C B6. Black elderberry seed extract has antimicrobial (antibacterial and antiviral) and anti-inflammatory properties, it activates the immune system in the event of inflammation. In the food industry, it is used in dietary supplements as well as in confectionery and as a colorant in jams and beverages.

How does elderberry seed oil work:

  • moisturises, limits TEWL,
  • moisturises dry skin – ideal for the care of hands, elbows and heels,

  • increases the permeability of the epidermis and transports active substances deep into the skin,

  • nourishes and regenerates dry hair,

  • anti-aging, thanks to the action of phytosterols and fatty acids, it stimulates collagen synthesis and inhibits the decomposition of elastin fibres,

  • anti-inflammatory,

  • antibacterial,

  • antifungal and antioxidant,

  • prevents the formation of blackheads and pore clogging,

  • accelerates the regeneration of atopic, seborrheic and acne skin,
    soothes inflammation and skin irritations.

Application:
